The force of the invisible  | José Unda

“Art is made for the love of life and it must integrate everything, even what does not exist but will exist at some point. It is also what is cyclical, what goes back and forth like breathing ”. (José Unda, 2008)

José Unda entered the School of Fine Arts at the age of 14. His adventure begins before that and later. As a child he loved music above all and the work of the professionals that thrived in his environment. He did it in a way that was not entirely understandable to him but that began to make sense when, through drawings of instruments that he only imagined. The guitar, the piano, the violin or the flute that he wanted to play started to emerge from his hands. The flutes he drew were long and sinuous, with many holes. The guitars and violins had a lot of strings as if with that abundance, he says, “could originate a more extensive music, almost infinite.”

Los Secretos Del Vacio | José Unda

The Metropolitan Cultural Center presents the work of José Unda, an Ecuadorian painter with more than 50 years of experience.

He masterfully combines unconventional materials with themes linked to the vastness of the cosmos and the search for the unknown and immeasurable.

The artist invites the viewer to explore into his work and investigate the infinite and unknown of space, color and matter.

“My best work is on paper,” says Unda, but explains that his priority is not the medium, but what is on it. The background and not the form.
